I actually enjoy making her this marzipan grandma.

The bow with gemstone is one of my favorite to make and it seemed nice to try the lace flower cutters again.

The cake was filled with raspberry bavarian and fresh strawberries. simple, but tasty.

Go Holland!

We gathered around for a BBQ and we realised it would be during the Woldcup. A friend of mine said he would only come if there should be cake. So be it.

I've looked on internet for inspiration and found this how-to for a ballshaped cake. To show we support the Dutch team, I've changed the black patches for orange ones and of course the lion could not be missed.

This cake was the first one I've tried to bake with a colour. The inside of the ball was orange too. For the first time I've tried some other fresh fruit for the filling. I've used whipped cream with Mango and Mango bavarian.

Motherduck part 2

I was really nervous about if I could make this again. But it seems like I've been more experienced in making these things and of course, I've learned what I didn't had to do the last time I've made this cake.

The cake was ment as a gift for the sister in law of my friend who just gave birth to a little boy (the little duckling) and also has a big sister (the larger duckling).

No need to say the favorite filling these days are Fresh strawberries and strawberry mousse.

Lovely cow

I really loved making this cake, the idea is simple, but really nice to look at. I've used normal fondant for covering the cake this time, since it's much whiter then marzipan. The black spots are made of marzipan, but the cow is also made out of fondant.

A bow for a cake

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
In the wedding edition of Cake and Craft, a cake magazine, I found a how-to for making these lovely bows with a gem stone in the middle. For my aunties visit I've made this little cake, filled with fresh strawberries and strawberry mousse.

The gemstone takes a lot of patient to make, but I love the result.

Delivering my first assignment.

My friends youngest son became one this year and she asked me to bake him a cake. The order was quite clear. Bambi, purple and orange and strawberry flavoured.

Still I thought it was quite hard to do this, because I didn't really know what she really likes. I mean, not everyone likes the same things (thank god)

I started with planning a purple cake with orange decoration and a orange cake with purple decoration. Then I've made the Bambi to put on top of the cake. When I'd finished the Bambi, I certainly realised it would be nicer to have the purple mixed with a hint of orange, so it looks like it's marbled. So. I need to change my plan at the very last moment. This is the result of a night hard work.

Motheringsday part 3

This cake, I've made for my own mother. Like the cake for my mother in law, it was filled with fresh strawberries, strawberry mousse and forestfruit bavarian. The cupcakes (in the left corner) are also strawberry flavoured.

The chocolatefudge are from a recipe of Nigella Lawson (and they taste very nice)

Unfortunately my brother in law was to early, so I couldn't finish te cake properly.

I'll make you happy!

My friend, he is staying in China for his work, asked me what would me make happy, so I said, Baking cakes and deliver a good tasting cake makes me happy, seeing every one enjoying the cake, makes me more happy. So, he said to me, I'll make you very happy, and he asked me to make him a cake for his short stay in Holland with his girlfriend.

The result was this cake, or should I say cakes. My sister-in-law asked me once to make her a cake filled with baileyscream. What's a better occassion for a nice grown up cake then a short gathering with all friends. For the non-alcoholics, I've made a small cake and filled it with strawberrymousse and fresh strawberries.

Both cakes are covered with chocolate fondant. and decorated with purple coloured Icing. Unfortunately, it seems like I'm always making to much icing.

Happy Birthday 2-year-olds...

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
When I was pregnant of my daughter, I participated the course: pregnancy and moving, some sort of pregnancy gym. Eversince we like to contact and meet each other now and then.

All children just turned 2 the beginning of the year, so when we had contact to arrange a meeting, I thought it would be nice to make the children an extra birthdaycake.

The bottom layer is a petal form cake filled with fresh strawberries, strawberry mousse and frorestfruit mousse. The upper layer, was filled with lemoncurd and lemonmousse. Both are covered with marzepin and the stars are also made out of marzepin. On each star there's a letter from the first name of each child.

It's strawberry season again.

Facemold from Debbie Brown

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
On an exhibition, I've bought this facemold. It contains 4 different sizes of faces with you can decorate to make woman-, man- or childrenfaces. It is really simple to use and vary.

This cake was made for the birthday of a friend from ballet. It's filled with strawberry jam and strawberry mousse. On the sides, I've used chocolatesticks for decoration.

Orange and chocolate bomb

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
It was my dad's birthday, but I had an exam, so I wasn't planning to make a cake. Then, when I was cleaning the kitchen, I found the chocolatefondant would expire in may. So I've made this chocolate cake (yes, the cake was also chocolate) and filled it with orange marmelade and orange bavarian. Then covered it up with chocolatefondant.

For the fondant I've used the impressionmat. I love the way it leaves a nice pattern on the fondant. It seems more clear to me then when I use it on marzepin.

In blue I've put on Happy Birthday around the cake because my brother thinks it looks so plain. My lovely daughter, made the blue flowers.

Mother and Daughter project

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
My auntie invited us for lunch on Saturday afternoon, and asked me to bake a cake. So, on Friday morning before going to work, I've baked this little round cake. I was planning to finish the cake after work while Melissa would be sleeping. But when she saw the cake, she thought she needed to help. So this little cake I've baked for my auntie, became a mother and daughter project.

Petal bakingform.

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
On a baking exhibition I've bought this petal bakingform. It looked very nice to me, but I didn't had a clue how I could cover it or decorate it.

Good Friday, my first day off since a long time, we went to a friends house for playing (for the kids) and crafting (for the moms). Because I would have help, I dare to try this new form and it wasn't that hard to cover it at all.

This is the result of a day hard work, well, a half day, I've made a lot of different flowers, but because it looked so nice with just the four roses on top, I've decided not to use the other flowers.

The cakes was filled with blackberryjam and forestfruitbavarian. (yes, I need to finish the stock)

Here comes the bride (and her bridesmaids)

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
I've always wanted to try to make a barbie/princesscake. On the internet are so many beautiful examples of barbiecakes.

So when another friend turned 30 this year and because she is also getting married this year, it seemed nice to me to make her these cakes.

The bride(cake) is made of chocolatecake and filled with orangemarmelade and orangebavarian. Then it's covered with buttercream and her dress is made of marzepin.

Her bridesmaids are made of normal plane cake. 2 of them are filled with strawberryjam and strawberrymousse, 2 are filled with blackberryjam and forestfruitmousse and the last 2 are filled with lemoncurd and lemonmousse.

My friend asked her bridesmaids to wear babycolors (pasteltints) so I've tried copy this.

(The dolls are real and not edible.)

Apple strudel

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa

My friend got a baking book for her birthday and because she don't have an oven, the book came in my possession. Anyways, in this book, there was a recipe for apple strudel, so I thought it's nice to try this.

It was quite easy to make, but it took a lot of time to prepare it.

Babymold

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa

The baby and blanket are made of marzepin and so are the letters what form the name of the daughter of my friend. It was the first time I've triede to paint marzepin (the hair) with coloring mixed with alcohol.

This cake was filled with blackberryjam and forestfruitmousse.

(Big) Girls love pink!

Again I've used stracciatella cakes and lemoncurd to stik the marzepin on the cakes.

Birthday treat

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
When it's your birthday, it's your treat. For my balletgroup, I've made these cupcakes as a birthday treat. As I've already mentioned, cupcakes are great for practicing technique. So I've tried the brush embroidery technique again.

I've used two kind of cakes, stracciatella and chocolate. Both are topped with lemoncurd and covered with marzepin. With icing I've brushed the flowers on it. In stead of water, I've used some lemon juice. This gives the icing and cakes a little bit more flavor.

Another Birthdaycake

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
My friend became 30 short after my birthday, but she told me not to buy her a present. So, making cake seems to be a good alternative.

I've tried to make some butterflies with my new cutters and let them dry with standing wings, unfortunately, somehow it got broken.

I was planning to make a different kind of strawberry mousse, but I didn't got the prefered result, so, I've used the forestfruit bavarian again.

Brush embroidery

My friend saw a picture of brush embroidery on cake and found a workshop where we could learn to use this beautifull technique. I've never heard of it, but when I saw the picture, I liked to try it.

So we went to the workshop together and this is the result of a couple of (late) hours work.

It was quite fun to do this, so maybe I will try to do it again.

Happy valentinesday

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa

February is always a busy month and this year, we had valentinesday, chinese new yearsday and dutch carnival on the same day! So, my birthday, short after valentines day, is always a silent passer-by. This year, I've made this lovely valentines bear for myself. I won't turn 30 every year. I've found the how-to on the dutch cake website and I really liked to try this.

So, Happy Valentinesday, Happy Chinese New year, and Happy Birthday in one cake...

I've found some other easy to prepare fillings, so this one is filled with strawberry jam and forestfruit bavarian.

No marzepin please

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
My father in law turned 60 this year, a nice occasion to have a nice dinner with the entire family. A couple of days before the dinner, my lovely husband asked me not to use marzepin. I was confused, where did I need marzepin for? Was I baking a cake? I thought we'd only had dinner. It turned out my husband was just so sure I would make a birthdaycake for his father, he liked to ask me not to use marzepin.

So I've started a quest for a nice and tasty alternative and started planning the cake. After a short search, I've found this fondant with chocolate taste. The only disadvantage of this fondant is that it's already dark brown. And due to time shortage, I couldn't think of a more creative way.

This cake is filled with tiramisu and butter cream with coffeetaste.

I don't really like working with this fondant, but it was so yummy....

Welcome to the world little girl!

We've made 3 different kind of cupcakes and started to cover it with the icing and marzepin. The red ones were forestfruit cakes, the purple ones are stracciatella and the green ones were just plane cakes with a little bit lemoncurd on the top.

The nicest thing of making cupcakes is that it's really nice to make so mych figures and different types in a short time. It's really nice for practicing different techniques

The premade icing was much to sweet for me, so I've decided not to use this anymore.

Nephew's first party

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
On a snowy day in January I've made this cake for our Nephew. It was his first party in occasion of his first month on earth.

I was shocked by one of our friends, he took a quarter of the whole cake... And... there was nothing left. (well, he shared a little bit with his girlfriend, but he almost had the whole part)

I really enjoy making cute little baby figures. This stroller I've found in one of the books I borrowed of the wife of my colleague.

No need to tell this cake was filled with strawberry Jam and strawberry mousse.

Print on Icing

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa
This is the apple cake my colleague requested. The one thing he didn't know was that I've asked his wife for a photo of his motor and I've found someone to print it on icingsheet. So this is the result.

For the marzepin, I've used a bread bakingmachine to knead it. I didn't used the entire program, but I've stopped the machine after a while. This is the first time the marble really looks like marble to me. Hurray for my bread bakingmachine.

My colleague was so happy to see this cake and shouted he couldn't eat his motor, so I've showed him the extra print I've orderd, so he can have that one as a souvenir.

Surprisingly, the icing sheet realy tasted nice. But of course, it's just candy.

Little drummer"boy"

Originally uploaded by mamaofmelissa

I've filled this cake with strawberry mousse and covered it with blank marzepin. Then, I've used a red pearl spray to colour the sides and a bronze pearl spray to colour the borders and strings.

I was disappointed because it got torn at the sides. But my colleague was very delighted when he saw this cake.

I found out it is quitte fun to make 3d dolls or caractersfor the cake (if you'll have enough time for it)

It's a pity it's winter now, I would have liked to use fresh strawberries. Instead, I've used strawberry mousse and jam again.

I think it was really hard to make the head, I love the small duckies more. But both my daughter and her friend (also 2 years old) were so glad when they saw mother duck with her ducklings, so this project is sucessfull to me.

The duck is filled with apple pie yoghurt and buttercream.
